Definition - What does Medical Review Officer Assistant mean?
A Medical Review Officer Assistant (MROA) is someone that works directly under a licensed physician that is a medical review officer (MRO) in order to organize and facilitate the drug testing process. The MROA does not have to be a licensed physician but should be trained in the rules and regulations of drug testing and HIPAA requirements, along with any other medical or legal issues surrounding drug testing.

A Medical Review Officer Assistant is tasked with helping the Medical Review Officer in an administrative role. They are responsible for organizing and reviewing the custody-and-control forms. They are required to look for any errors that need to be corrected, as well as any errors that cannot be corrected, in which case they would need to inform the MRO and possible cancel testing of that sample. Once the MROA has processed these forms, they will present them to the MRO for further review. A MROA is may also required to contact different clients in order to discuss testing results.
